Running a music program of this caliber requires a great deal of support from families, and participation allows the organization to provide students with a well-rounded program, and is a vital piece of our organizational puzzle. To make the program successful, all parents are asked to be involved in the program in a way that best utilizes their talents, be it building props, heading up hospitality, chaperoning a competition, chairing an event, or designing posters or programs. Each band family plays a key role in the success of the program and there is an activity just for YOU!

Below is a partial list of key coordinator positions. If you are not sure about a job, please ask the Volunteer Coordinator or a board member for more information. Any job you take on you will receive guidance and assistance along the way, so please don’t be afraid to get involved!

HOW CAN YOU VOLUNTEER?

Some things to consider ...

Applicants must have the following required documents ready at hand to upload when completing the online
process (an incomplete application will not be considered for approval):
​
1) Volunteers working with students CA DL/Gov’t issued ID, TB clearance, MPN) – For any in-person volunteering with students (e.g. festivals, competitions, drivers), BUSD requires that each parent complete an online Volunteer Application. As part of the application process, you will be asked to upload your TB (Tuberculosis) Risk Assessment and/or Clearance. You may not begin in-person volunteering until you have been notified that you have met all requirements of the District and have been approved.

2) Driver/Transportation Volunteers: CA DL/Gov’t issued ID, TB clearance, MPN, Proof of insurance and completed Driver Form (must meet District-required minimum insurance coverage), Live Scan clearance*

2) Overnight Chaperone – CA DL/Gov’t issued ID, TB clearance, MPN, Live Scan clearance* To chaperone an overnight trip, you must first complete the Volunteer Application. Once approved, you will also need a Live Scan*. (There is a cost associated with this process and BUSD will not accept any Live Scans done outside of this school district).
*Live Scan clearance is determined and/or issued by the District Office. If the applicant has no previous record of Live Scan clearance within the last 2 years on file, a form will be issued by the District Office. Processing will take at least a week from the time the Live Scan was taken. Non-District Live Scan clearances are not accepted.

3) Event Driver – BUSD does not allow parents to transport students other than their own to school-related events unless they are approved to do so. (Sometimes we have volunteer drivers take a small pep group to a performance versus getting a bus.) You must first complete a Volunteer Packet and a BUSD Driver Form. Please submit using the instructions above. Once approved, you will also need a Live Scan. (There is a cost associated with this process and BUSD will not accept any Live Scans done outside of this school district).

BUSD approval can take a couple days to a week, so get your paperwork in early!
